I first joined Deviant Art back on Jun 3, 2006... I saw a huge site that initially i was overwhelmed with. Being used to forums I headed straight there and created a thread entitled "
" .. I'm Kinda new "
Excessive use of smileys i grant you... however, I was greeted warmly by everyone.
As i had a look around the site I noticed an area for "Stock" ... Not knowing what this was i checked it out and thought.. "hey, why not... I'll upload something!"
So i did
JESUS THE HAIR - JESUS THE MAKEUP *cries for eternity*
So with that one image, lots of usage came.. people at the time seemed to be shocked with the bright hair colour, deeming me to be "not real" ... which was quite cool.. i can live with that!
Before long I couldn't leave the house without thinking "STOCK... STOCK!" ... It consumed me fully. I loved seeing what Artists around the world could do.. and to be a part of it was just memorizing.
Today, I still look to upload more and more stock, and often don't take photo's from an "artistic" or "photographic" point of view, but more for it to be usable, and easy to cut-out..
I'd say in all my time on DeviantArt my most popular image has to have been this lad here...
My old boy Orient the Cat. He's been the center of so many beautiful pieces of artwork, and the butt of many copyright infringements, but he is still with us, and still... asleep in the same place the photo was taken.
I've been extremely lucky in my time on deviant art... I've received SIX
daily deviations.. I can't quite believe that myself... My most recent was yesterday.... I'm honored and amazed that people deem my stock photography that worthy, and will always hold them in high regard. Thank you so much.
I'd be nothing without my loyal followers and fans of my work, users of my stock, artists, and general friends who put up with all the Rat photos i bombard you all with. You're so brilliant. Thank you all. :')
Every 1,885 of you!
Another hugely popular stock image is this one:
This old guy has been used so many times for many mysterious and reflective pieces of art. The image was taken in Venice... and no... I'm not too sure what he's looking at either!!
Happy 14th birthday DeviantArt! Thank you to opening me up to the most beautiful site on the internet!
And although I'm no longer pink haired and fresh faced, One thing has stayed constant.
Orient. - Go thank him... He's the mastermind behind it all.
