truthfully, I always had a fear of rats... don't know why, because I had hamsters and gerbils as a kid... But I was afraid of rats.. of course I am sure their is a big difference in pets and the wild ones... But still your pictures have really helped me over come the fear, and I have been around a few rats that are pets of friends. They are very smart, so it only makes sense that they make good pets.

They are truly wonderful pets, I understand the fear of them, I think the press they get doesn't help that. My friends are always shocked when they first meet them that you can put the hand straight in the cage and they won't bite you... it's good that you're open to it though, a lot of people think they don't like Rats and won't even try and learn about them! :) :huggle: x

Oh, I would. They are very smart and if I can lose all my fears, I would. I have 4 cats and a rat terrier and the problem would be, trying to give any other pet the attention they deserve. Because I have also wanted a guinea pig. My kids had one years ago. He lived a long life but it could of been better. I was always on the go and he did not get the time he needed. Without that, they become timid and he liked to bite, especially me lol. Also wanted rabbit, So I love rodents, I even feed the squirels in my yard. Used to feed them right out of my hand but I had to stop that because they were becoming too friendly and not just with me... which is dangerous for them. So when they get close I scare them off. Hate doing it but its for their own good. I guess the part that scares me about rats is their tail... sounds crazy I know lol. But thats the only thing it can be.. Squirels and rats look a lot a like, except that tail. Most rat owners say they are a lot of fun.. and you can see that in your pictures and how good you are with them. Some people don't realize that you get what you give... give a lot of time and bonding... then you get a loving pet, no matter what type of pet it is. Ignore them, and you will get something unpredictable and that lacks trust. They can become fearful which can lead to aggression.

I'd hold him all the time.... he'd definitely be a pocket rat.... or I'd give be girly and carry a purse just for him and have a purse rat instead of a purse dog. LMFAO!

How on earth do you get yours to be so chill and still? Mine are always running around and are never calm when I take them out lol

This guy was quite old, He spent all his time with me unless i was asleep... and that even included restaurants! He had Hind leg problems and couldn't really do much for himself, I used to wash him, feed him etc,... So he got used to me handling him a lot... To be fair to him though he was a super chilled out Rat in general... His brother on the other hand...was the complete opposite!
